Special Ability Wiki

The Special Ability is a mechanic that allows player to activate temporary power-ups to gain advantages in certain situations. Special abilities are featured in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas by installing Special Abilities Mod. This mechanic is reminiscent to Special Ability featured in Grand Theft Auto V.

Player has an additional meter which indicates how much special ability could lasts. The player can activate special ability by pressing Caps Lock on PC. Different abilities have their own methods to fill the meter. Refilling the meter will also increase Special stat. The Special stat indicates the capacity of Special meter, meaning special ability could lasts longer with full meter.

Abilities

A total of 6 basic abilities is featured. Each of them has different methods to fill special meter. Combining two of them is possible to add more variations. However, doing so will takes Special stat longer to increase.

Ability customization

Aside from changing ability that can be activated, player also have the option to combine said ability with second ability. However by doing so, gaining Special stat will be harder to compensate two abilities at once. Player can also let special abilities unusable until player can raise their special stat or restrict their special ability to only usable while walking or driving.

As a result, many variations could be possible. The following examples are result of the customization:

The player using Franklin's ability, note the greenish screen tint.
Franklin's Ability
This special ability featured in Grand Theft Auto V, used by Franklin Clinton. This ability allows player to slows down time while driving and make precise maneuvers quickly.

The player using Michael's ability, along with GTAV HUD mod.

Michael's Ability
This special ability featured in Grand Theft Auto V, used by Michael De Santa. This ability allows player to slows down time and improves their accuracy to gain massive advantage in shootouts. This ability can only used while on-foot.

Trevor's Ability
This special ability featured in Grand Theft Auto V, used by Trevor Philips. This ability allows player to take less damage and inflict more damage on others, making them practically invincible. This ability can only used while on-foot. However unlike the original, this ability doesn't slows down time. But compensated as player will also not thrown away by cars or explosions.

Notes

  • The more Special skill player has, the longer it takes to completely fill ability meter.
  • Chain kills can only performed by guns (bullets). Melee, fire, explosive or projectiles doesn't count. However, shooting an explosive object to kill nearby peds does count as chain kill as well.
  • Damage that absorbed by armor will not increase special ability. The damage must directly affects player's health.
  • The ability to slows down time has more drastical effect compared to one triggered in improved vehicle handling ability. If both abilities are combined the former one will overlap the time-slowing effect.
